From the lagoon, Wilpattu National Park is about two and a half hours by car. The ancient city has preserved within itself remnants of the old Sri Lankan kingdom. Polonnaruwa has also been in the limelight as the setting for the 2015 Disney nature documentary “Monkey Kingdom” and depicts the cultural and natural marvels of this region.
